Eligibility and requirements

Who should apply​

In-state and out-of-state businesses can take advantage of our online MyDORWA​Y Business Tax Application

Please review the requirements for your business type ​​before starting your application.

​Corporations,​
Limited Liability Companies (LLC),
Limited Liability Partnerships (LLP),
Limited Partnerships (LP),
Professional Associations

If you do business in South Carolina or have a South Carolina business location, these business types must:

  1. register with the South Carolina Secretary of State’s Office, and
  2. have a valid Federal Employer Identification Number (F​​EIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
     
​Partnership,
Fiduciary

These business types must have a valid​​ Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).​

​Sole Proprietors

All Sole Proprietors must:

  1. be at least 18 years of age, and
  2. have a valid Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
     
​Remote Sellers​​​Out-of-state taxpayers who make sales in South Carolina are considered Remote Sellers. Remote Sellers must have a Retail License if they have economic nexus with South Carolina

 

You can use the MyDORWAY Business Tax Application if ONE of the following applies:

  • You are an out-of-state company doing business in SC.
  • You are an out-of-state company with an employee working in SC and need an SC Withholding Tax account.
  • You have no physical presence in SC but have nexus filing requirements.
  • You are a tax preparer with no SC filing requirement but need to register with the SCDOR to file taxes for your client.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. If you start your Business Tax Application and need to finish it later, simply click the Save Draft button. Write down your Confirmation Code and save it for future reference.​

To resume your application, select Find a Saved Application, located on the MyDORWAY home page under Applications & Searches. You'll need the email address and confirmation code associated with the initial application.

A NAICS Code is a classification within the North American Industry Classification System. The NAICS was developed for use by Federal Statistical Agencies for the collection, analysis, and publication of statistical data related to the US economy.

On MyDO​RWAY you can:

  • update your business and mailing address.
  • update the name of your business.
  • close your business tax account.

Business Personal Property Tax (BPP) is a tax on the furniture, fixtures, and equipment that are owned and used in a business. Depending on your location and NAICS code, the MyDORWAY Business Tax Application will prompt you to apply for a BPP Account.

Withholding Tax is taken out of taxpayer wages to go towards the taxpayers' total yearly Income Tax liability. Every employer or withholding agent that has an employee earning wages in South Carolina (and who is required to file a return or deposit with the IRS) must make a return or deposit to the SCDOR for any taxes that have been withheld for state purposes.

If you have an employee who works in South Carolina (even if you have no physical presence in South Carolina), you must apply for a Withholding account in South Carolina and file quarterly SC Withholding returns.

Unemployment Insurance Tax

Employers who have paid wages in covered employment must register with​ the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (SCDEW).
