Request a Certificate of Compliance
A Certificate of Compliance provides confirmation that all tax returns and taxes administered by the SCDOR have been filed and paid by a taxpayer. The certificate may be requested when proof of compliance is necessary for an individual or business and is valid for 30 days from the date of issue by the SCDOR.
Certificate of Tax Compliance Requests (Form C-268)

If after research and review the taxpayer is found not to be in compliance, a secure email (if an email address is provided by the taxpayer), fax, or letter will be sent to the taxpayer notifying them that they are not in compliance. A detailed list of the tax types and periods that are not in compliance and what must be done to bring the taxpayer into compliance will be included in that notification.
The taxpayer will be given 30 days from the notification date to become compliant. If the taxpayer is unable to complete the items in the allotted time, they must contact the
prior to the end of the 30 days to request an extension.
If the taxpayer is found to be in compliance, the Certificate of Tax Compliance should be issued within 7 to 10 business days of the request. The Certificate of Tax Compliance can be sent by secure email to the party making the request.
