File and pay your Individual Income Tax online

On average, more than 90% of SC Individual Income Tax returns are filed online each year. Here's why:

Automatic calculations reduce the chance of errors.
Systematic checkpoints ensure your return is complete before your return can be submitted.
Filing online is the fastest and easiest way to complete your return, which means we can start processing it faster.
If you're expecting a refund, choose direct deposit! It's the fastest, easiest, most secure way to receive your refund.
File with FREE tax filing software

You may qualify to file your federal and state return with FREE tax filing software if you made $79,000 or less in 2023.

See FREE filing software >

File with tax filing software (fees apply)

If you don't qualify for free tax filing software, you can still file your federal and state returns online using software approved by the SCDOR.

Pay your Income Tax bill online

We recommend MyDORWAY for the safest and easiest way to make online payments using a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) or from your checking or savings account.

Choose DIRECT DEPOSIT for the quickest and safest way to receive your refund!

 File by paper

It's important to know that filing by paper increases your chances of errors and paper returns take longer for us to process, which may delay any refund you may receive.

You can now access transcripts for tax year 2021 and 2022 SC Individual Income Tax returns on MyDORWAY.Learn more about requesting transcripts when logged in to MyDORWAY, the SCDOR's free online tax portal.

Options for paying your Income Tax bill when filing by paper:

Even if you are a first time filer, we recommend MyDORWAY for the easiest and safest way to pay your Income Tax bill online using a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) or from your checking or savings account. Learn more
Drafting your payment from your bank account is easier and faster than mailing in a paper check. Skip the post office, avoid getting your check lost in the mail, and simply check the ACH Debit box on line 36 and enter your banking information on line 37 of the SC1040.
To pay by paper check, mail the check to the address on the form, letter, or notice related to your payment, and please note:
  • The SCDOR only accepts checks drawn from a United States bank.
  • Your check may be converted to a debit (ACH) transaction which will process your payment faster from your bank account, and your payment will show as an electronic payment on your bank statement (you will not see a scanned image of your check).
If you have a tax bill and are worried you can't pay, the SCDOR wants you to know that you have options.

 Expecting a refund?

If you are expecting a refund, you can choose to receive your refund by direct deposit or paper check

We recommend choosing direct deposit. It’s the fastest, easiest, most secure way to receive your refund. As soon as we’ve processed your return, your refund will be deposited into your bank account. You don’t have to wait for paper check printing, your check getting lost in the mail, or taking the time to deposit or cash your check.
