Local Option Permit (LOP)

The Local Option Permit (LOP) authorizes the sale of liquor by the drink on Sundays from 12:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. and also on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. for businesses already holding a Business (Restaurant or Hotel) Liquor by the Drink Permit. ​ This license is only issued in counties and municipalities that have approved Sunday sales of alcoholic liquors.

License ​renewal

The Local Option Permit may be obtained as needed (for each individual Sunday) or on an annual basis. 

​​ ​This license does NOT authorize:
  • The manufacturing, fermenting, brewing, or bottling of beer by the licensee
  • The sale or consumption of liquor
  • The distribution and sale of beer to retail locations
  • The retail sale of beer to customers for consumption or to-go


After logging in, scroll to the ABL account you need an LOP for under the Accounts tab, then select More Account Options​. On the next screen, select Apply for a Local Option Permit.​​

​Application requirements and instructions​

First, it's important for you to review the general ABL applicant requirements listed on the ABL license directory page ​to make sure you are eligible to apply.

When you’re ready to apply, we recommend submitting your application using our free online tax portal, MyDORWAY. It’s faster and easier than completing a paper application, and you don’t have to worry about mail proc​essing or making a trip to one of our offices.​

  • ​License fee: $200 per Sunday or $3,050 per year
