BEGINNING OCTOBER 1, 2022: Paper forms will no longer be accepted
You will be required to electronically file and pay your returns after October 1, 2022. Read our latest article for more information and see other Accommodations Tax tips.

Electronic options for Withholding Tax account holders

All Withholding filers that submit 100 or more returns or payments per filing period (including payroll services providers and tax preparers) are required to submit their returns and payments electronically. Businesses that submit 10 or more W-2 and 1099 forms are also required to submit those forms electronically.

Even if you aren’t required to submit Withholding returns, Withholding payments, W-2 forms and 1099 forms electronically, the SCDOR recommends that you consider our electronic options. Filing and paying electronically is faster, easier, and more secure than mailing paper returns and checks.

Tips for avoiding errors

  • Double check that you have your clients’ correct FEIN and Withholding Tax account file numbers before filing returns or making payments.
  • If your client does not have a Withholding file number, they must apply for one (free of charge), using the SCDOR’s Business Tax Application.
  • Need to validate a file number? Use MyDORWAY's Withholding File Number Search tool by submitting the last 4 digits of your client’s FEIN and their legal business name.
  • Remember, unemployment insurance is handled by the South Carolina Department of Employment Workforce (DEW), not the SCDOR.
