The SCDOR has published its annual update of the state's Withholding Tax Tables. Employers and payroll providers should begin using both the
2025 Withholding Tables and the
2025 SC W-4 on January 1, 2025.
Why it matters:
- The annual updates help ensure South Carolina employers are withholding the right amount from employees' paychecks.
- Accurate Withholding Tables benefit employers, employees, and the state.
Taxpayers should check their withholding early each year, when the tax law has changed, or if they have experienced significant life changes, including:
- Marriage
- Divorce
- The birth of a child
- A new job or raise
- New taxable income not subject to withholding
- Changes in itemized deductions or tax credits
Taxpayers should complete a new SC W-4 when they begin a new job or need to update their withholding.
