The vast majority of South Carolina Individual Income Tax refunds make it safely to taxpayers, but the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) wants you to know what to do if your refund is missing.

If your South Carolina refund never arrived in your mailbox or bank account, it's easy to report it as missing and request a replacement.

First steps to take if you suspect your refund is missing:

  • Before reporting your refund as missing, check your refund status at dor.sc.gov/refund to verify it was issued.
  • If the SCDOR's Where's My Refund tool says your direct deposit refund was issued, but you have not received it, contact your financial institution.
  • If your refund status shows that your refund check was issued more than 30 days ago, you can report your refund as missing.
  • You can also request a replacement refund if your original refund check was lost, stolen, or destroyed before you could deposit it.
  • If your refund status does not show that your refund was issued, we may still be processing your return.

MyDORWAY is the fastest, easiest way to request a replacement refund:

  • Log in to your MyDORWAY account or sign up for a new account to get started. Once you've logged in…
    • Scroll to your Individual Income Tax account and click More Account Options.
    • On the next screen, select Report a Missing Refund.
    • You can request a direct deposit refund by entering your bank account and routing numbers.
    • We recently enhanced this process so taxpayers can report multiple missing refunds at one time instead of submitting a separate request for each missing refund.
  • You can also report a missing refund using SC3911, the Individual Income Tax Refund Tracer paper form, though using MyDORWAY is the fastest way to receive a replacement refund.

What to expect once you have reported a refund as missing:

  • Allow up to six weeks for the SCDOR to process your request and issue a replacement refund.

If you used MyDORWAY to request a replacement refund, track the status of your request by logging in to MyDORWAY, clicking the More tab, and selecting Search Submissions.
