CHARLESTON COUNTY RESTAURANT AND STORE OPERATOR CHARGED WITH 10 COUNTS OF OPERATING WITHOUT A RETAIL LICENSE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  -

South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) agents arrested the operator of a Charleston County restaurant and convenience store on Monday and charged him with 10 counts of operating without a retail license.

Roger Sylvester Cameron, 59, of North Charleston, is the operator of Tricam, LLC and its businesses Cammie's International Grocery and Cammie's Caribbean Cuisine. According to arrest warrants, Cameron was responsible for all financial matters with the businesses. The businesses only had one retail license between the locations. SCDOR Revenue Officers revoked Cameron's retail license in February of 2023.

Despite repeated written and verbal warnings from SCDOR agents and Revenue Officers following the revocation, the warrants allege Cameron continued to open and operate the businesses. Agents informed Cameron if he continued to open and operate the businesses unlawfully, he could be charged separately for each day he continued to operate.

If convicted, Cameron faces a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail and/or a fine of $200 for each count. He was held in the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center Monday pending a bond hearing.

The SCDOR is committed to the fair administration of tax laws. By taking enforcement action against noncompliant taxpayers, the Department seeks to prevent unfairly increasing the tax burden on those who do comply.
