FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  -

SCDOR agents arrested an Anderson man on Thursday and charged him with seven counts of tax evasion.

John B. Rutledge, 60, altered his W-2 forms, failed to report additional income, and made fictitious deductions on his state Individual Income Tax returns during tax years 2016 through 2022, according to arrest warrants.

Altogether, Rutledge underreported his income by more than $170,000, resulting in the evasion of approximately $34,000 in taxes.

If convicted, Rutledge faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines for each count. He is being held in the Anderson County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
