Williamsburg County adding new Capital Projects Tax on May 1

Wednesday, Apr 1, 2026

Williamsburg County is adding a new Capital Projects Tax, effective May 1, 2026. As a result, its Sales Tax rate will increase to 8%.

Retailers should begin collecting the Capital Projects Tax when making sales and deliveries in Williamsburg County beginning May 1.

Also, two counties are reimposing existing local taxes this year:

  • Lexington County has extended its School District Tax, effective March 1, 2026. Its Sales Tax rate remains 7%.
  • Aiken County is reimposing its Capital Projects Tax, effective May 1, 2026. Its Sales Tax rate remains 8%.

The statewide Sales and Use Tax is 6%. Counties may impose additional Local Sales Taxes if voters in that county approve.
