The SCDOR determines if any property (real or personal) qualifies for exemption from ad valorem taxes that are found in SC Code Section 12-37-220.
Real property
- INDIVIDUALS - may include land and buildings, buildings, mobile homes, and land and mobile homes.
- ORGANIZATIONS - includes land and buildings, buildings, mobile homes, and land and mobile homes, as well as land taxed solely.
Personal property
- INDIVIDUALS - may include automobiles, motor homes, motorcycles, vans, SUVs, trucks, low-speed vehicles, and mopeds.
- ORGANIZATIONS - includes automobiles, motor homes, motorcycles, vans, SUVs, trucks, low-speed vehicles, and mopeds, as well as furniture fixtures and equipment, buses, and ambulances.
You may qualify for a Property Tax Exemption if you are a:
- disabled veteran
- paraplegic or hemiplegic person
- South Carolina law enforcement officer or firefighter with a total and permanent disability
- Parent of a minor child who is blind or required to use a wheelchair on a permanent basis
