Learn about a few of the positions we have at the SCDOR:

Bingo Auditors help ensure licensed bingo operations across South Carolina are operating in compliance with state laws. This role combines auditing, field inspections, and communication with license holders to protect the integrity of regulated bingo gaming.

Bingo Auditors review financial activity, visit licensed locations across the state, and evaluate how gaming proceeds are managed and distributed. The role offers a balance of independent analysis and field work while supporting accountability within South Carolina’s regulated gaming environment.  

Salary range: $55,275 - $88,600  

Schedule:  

  • Flexible hours may be available from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
  • Hybrid schedules may be available with up to two days of telework per week after one year of employment with SCDOR.  

Preferred qualifications:  

  • A bachelor’s degree with multiple accounting courses  
  • Considerable knowledge of Individual Income Tax and Exempt Organizations

Income Tax Specialists review and analyze tax returns to ensure compliance with South Carolina and federal tax laws while helping taxpayers understand and resolve account adjustments.

As an Income Tax Specialist, you’ll play a key role in ensuring fair and accurate tax administration by reviewing and adjusting income tax returns, communicating with taxpayers, and applying tax laws consistently. You’ll work in a service-focused environment that values accuracy, organization, and continuous learning. This role includes structured onboarding, ongoing training, and clear opportunities for professional growth within the agency. 

Salary range: $57,361 - $88,600

Schedule:  

  • Flexible hours are available from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
  • Hybrid schedules may be available with up to two days of telework per week after one year of employment with SCDOR. 

Preferred qualifications (one of the following):  

  • A bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, or tax preparation/analysis OR 
  • An associate’s degree and three years of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, or tax preparation/analysis

Audit Interns at SCDOR gain hands-on, paid experience working alongside professional auditors and analysts. This flexible internship allows students to develop real-world accounting, audit, and data analysis skills.

Audit Interns specialize in one of four tracks: Income Tax Audit, Sales Tax Audit, Miscellaneous Tax Audit, or Audit Analytics & Support. Depending on placement, students assist with reviewing tax returns, supporting audit engagements, analyzing data, preparing reports, and contributing to special projects that support agency operations.

Hourly rate: $18 - $21

Schedule:  

  • Flexible hours, at least 10 hours per week between 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday
  • With the option of more hours

Preferred qualifications:  

  • This internship is designed for students pursuing degrees in accounting, finance, data analytics, or related fields who want meaningful experience working both independently and as part of a professional team.
