Frequently asked questions

What are the advantages of submitting W-2 and 1099 forms through MyDORWAY?
  • If you have few employees, it is easy to enter information for each employee.
  • If you choose to upload a file, you don't have to rely on the mail or carrier to deliver the information to the SCDOR.
  • You will be given a printable confirmation when your submission is complete, so you can feel confident that the SCDOR has received your information.
  • No paper. Today, most businesses use computers or services to keep payroll records. Most accounting packages with a payroll module can produce a file for upload. Payroll companies almost always have the capability to produce the appropriate file to upload. You do not have to mail any forms to the SCDOR.
  • You are assured that the information submitted, and confirmed, met formatting standards.
  • The information you enter is encrypted and secure, unlike mail or carrier.
Do I need a username and password to submit W-2 and 1099 forms on MyDORWAY?

Yes. If you do not already have a MyDORWAY account, create one at dor.sc.gov/MyDORWAY-signup to begin submitting W-2 forms online.

After I submit W-2 or 1099 forms on MyDORWAY, can I cancel a submission or make changes?

You cannot submit changes or corrections on MyDORWAY but you can cancel and resubmit a new, corrected file prior to the end of the business day of the original file being submitted.

If you need to have a file canceled after the original filing day, contact the SCDOR Withholding section at 803-896-1450.

Can I use the same MyDORWAY account to submit W-2 and 1099 forms for multiple businesses?

Yes, if you are uploading a file, the file itself can contain information for more than one business. The entire file, not just the information for one business, is either accepted or rejected. If you are manually submitting the data using the excel template, the data can only be for one business.

Is MyDORWAY secure?

Yes. All information between your browser and MyDORWAY is encrypted and processed securely.

Can I submit the same file on MyDORWAY that I submitted to the Social Security Administration?

Yes, as long as the state record is included in the file.

The file uploaded must be a .txt file.

How long is my W-2 and 1099 upload history available on my MyDORWAY account?

Indefinitely.

What is the deadline for submitting W-2s?

W-2s are due to employees, the IRS/SSA, and the SCDOR annually by January 31.

Do I need to send the SCDOR a WH-1612 (Transmittal Form) if I submit W-2s on MyDORWAY?

No, you do not need to send in a WH-1612 if you submit W-2 or 1099 forms on MyDORWAY.

No. Individual W-2 or 1099 forms cannot be printed using MyDORWAY.

Is filing W-2 or 1099 forms on MyDORWAY mandatory?

MyDORWAY is the SCDOR's preferred method to submit your W-2 or 1099 forms.

If you file 10 or more W-2 or 1099 forms you must use MyDORWAY.

If you file less than 10 W-2 or 1099 forms and are unable to file on MyDORWAY, you may file by paper along with the WH-1612.

Do I have to report both dollars and cents?

The wage fields must use dollars and cents, but you enter the amount differently depending on the method of input:

  • If you manually enter wages online through MyDORWAY, 100 entered is equivalent to $100.00, 100.10 is equivalent to $100.10.
  • If you upload a file using the EFW2 format, the wage field must be 11 numeric digits, no decimal point and zero filled. $100 is represented as 00000010000, $100.10 is represented as 00000010010.
Will I have a record of what is submitted?

No, but you will receive a printable confirmation when you have successfully submitted your file.

No. As long as you have received a MyDORWAY confirmation, your filing is complete.

Should I partially mask the SSN on W-2 or 1099 forms for my employees?

The W-2 and 1099 that the employer provides to the SCDOR, IRS, and/or Social Security Administration must have the full SSN, FEIN, or ITIN.

To protect against identity theft, the IRS allows employers to truncate, or partially mask using an asterisk or other symbol, employee SSNs, FEINs, or ITINs on the W-2 or 1099 that the employer provides to the employee.

Employers may not truncate their own identification number on any forms given to employees, the SCDOR, IRS, or Social Security Administration.

Can I file 1099s or W-2c forms on MyDORWAY?

Yes. MyDORWAY accepts the following forms in addition to the standard W-2 and 1099: W-2c, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-NEC, and 1099-MISC.

To submit other 1099 file types to the SCDOR, you must submit paper copies directly to the SCDOR along with the WH-1612.

How do I know if I have completed the submission?

You will receive a confirmation when you complete your submission.

Does the MyDORWAY W-2 and 1099 upload take the place of forms or filings that would normally be sent to the Social Security Administration?

No, filing W-2 or 1099 forms on MyDORWAY is specific to filing with the SCDOR. Businesses with South Carolina employees must submit W-2 forms to both the SSA and the SCDOR.
