Training for alcohol servers and bartenders

Server training programs that meet the requirements of SC Code Section 61-3-120(B)

Beginning January 1, 2026, all alcohol servers and bartenders who serve alcohol for on-premises consumption must complete an approved server training program that meets the requirements of SC Code Section 61-3-120(B).

By law, after a training program provider has submitted their training program to the SCDOR, we have 60 days to approve or deny the program.

As of January 1, 2026, the SCDOR has not yet approved any server training programs to meet the requirements of SC Code Section 61-31-120(B). Once training programs are approved, servers and bartenders will have 60 days to complete an approved server training program.

We will update this page when server training is available. To receive an email when training programs are approved, subscribe to Alcohol Beverage Licensing News at dor.sc.gov/emails.

Immediately after successfully completing the training, servers will receive an alcohol server certificate number.
Servers can view and download their alcohol server certificate by visiting dor.sc.gov/AlcoholServerCertificate and entering their name and server certificate number.

Information for Alcohol Server Training Providers

The SCDOR is required by law to approve all alcohol server training programs. Submit all training programs to ABL@dor.sc.gov.

Before submitting training programs for certification under SC Code Section 61-3-120(B), please review the following documents:

Other approved alcohol training programs

The vendors listed below offer server training programs for alcohol servers and bartenders who serve alcohol for on-premises consumption but do not currently offer a training program that meets the requirements of SC Code Section 61-3-120(B).

These vendors may also offer training programs for other scenarios, including but not limited to:

Employees who are in violation of ABL laws and regulations and must complete a recognized training program (SC Code Sections 61-4-50(C) and 61-6-4080(C)).
Employees who serve beer at breweries for on-premises consumption (SC Code Section 61-4-1515(A)(8)).
Employees who serve alcoholic liquors at manufacturing locations or micro-distilleries for on-premises consumption (SC Code Section 61-6-1155(C)(5)).
