Our Protective Services team is a perfect fit for current law enforcement officers looking for predictable hours, a supportive environment, and the opportunity to make a difference without the stress of long shifts or on-call demands.

Our Law Enforcement Officers play a vital role in maintaining a secure and welcoming environment at our offices. In this position, you’ll operate advanced screening equipment, patrol assigned areas, respond to emergencies, investigate incidents, and provide dispatch services. With competitive pay, ongoing training, and exceptional benefits, this is a rewarding opportunity to continue your law enforcement career in a professional, low stress setting where every day brings something new. 

Salary range: $53,300 - $66,600  

Schedule:  

  • 7.5-hour shifts between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • No on-call hours; no night or weekend shifts

Preferred qualifications:  

  • Certified or formerly certified law enforcement officer  
  • Experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency  
  • Bachelor’s degree

Additional requirements:

  • A valid driver’s license  
  • Currently possess Class 1 Basic Law Enforcement Certification or be able to obtain  
  • Must be physically able to lift, bend, and stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to obtain an SC Constable Commission I as required by SLED
  • May require occasional statewide travel and overnight stay

Our Field Audit Services team encourages taxpayer compliance through education and the administration of tax revenue audits, resulting in equity for the taxpayers of South Carolina. As a Tax Auditor, you will advance these goals by analyzing individual and business tax accounts​.

Tax Auditors have established training plans, which provides learning opportunities that support career growth, including both classroom and on-the-job training. No two audits are the same, so ​Tax Auditors experience a wide variety of different entities and industries, allowing them to develop their tax, accounting, and business operation knowledge.  

Salary range: $55,275 - $103,900
*Specific range varies based on tax type

Schedule:  

  • Flexible hours are available from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
  • Hybrid schedules may be available with up to two days of telework per week after one year of employment with SCDOR. 

Preferred qualifications:  

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with at least 18 hours of accounting and experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis (transcript required)
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required for field work ​(mileage reimbursement is provided)

Tax Examiners educate customers and administer the tax laws of South Carolina, with the goal of improving voluntary compliance. As a Tax Examiner, you have a training plan which provides learning opportunities to build expertise in a given tax area to support your career growth.

Tax Examiners are quick learners who can adapt to changes in tax law, return preparation techniques, tax systems, and the characteristics of various business types and industries. The SCDOR is committed to providing employees with the knowledge and skills required to become successful through classroom and on-the-job training.  

Salary range: $51,147 - $66,800

Schedule:  

  • Flexible hours may be ​available from 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
  • Hybrid schedules may be available with up to two days of telework per week after one year of employment with SCDOR. 

Preferred qualifications (one of the following):  

  • A high school diploma and four years of experience in accounting, auditing, or bookkeeping OR
  • An associate’s degree with two years of experience in accounting, auditing, or bookkeeping OR
  • A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses (transcript required)
