The Office Collections team strives to guide and assist taxpayers in hardship situations, and their mission is to maximize tax compliance by educating taxpayers and enforcing the revenue and regulatory laws of South Carolina.

Office Collections Officers provide customer service, process pay plan requests, and work toward collecting debt. Field work is not required for this position. We provide training and development opportunities, which provides the opportunity to move through each section of the Office Collections Team. 

Salary range: $41,947 - $59,500  

Schedule:  

  • Hours are available from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
  • Hybrid schedules may be available with up to two days of telework per week after one year of employment with SCDOR.  

Preferred qualifications (one of the following):  

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field OR  
  • As associate’s degree in a business-related field and experience in customer service, collections, tax, or an inbound call center environment OR  
  • Four years of experience in customer service, collections, tax, or an inbound call center environment

Revenue Officers help to enhance voluntary compliance through their work with taxpayers by providing customer service, resolving tax debt, and enforcing SC tax laws.

Revenue Officers prioritize customer service, showing dedication to assisting others and resolving issues, both in the office and in the field. We offer a structured training plan, allowing employees to develop comprehensive knowledge and skills in all areas of tax law and collection.  

Salary range: $57,361 - $66,800

Schedule:  

  • Flexible hours may be available from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
  • Hybrid schedules may be available with up to two days of telework per week after one year of employment with SCDOR.  

Preferred qualifications:  

  • A bachelor’s degree in a business-related field and at least one year of relevant work experience  

Additional requirements:  

  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required for field work. (Mileage reimbursement provided)

Taxpayer Assistance Officers are the first point of contact for South Carolina’s walk-in taxpayers, helping them navigate tax requirements with confidence. In this dynamic, face-to-face role, you’ll make a meaningful impact through education and problem solving while engaging with a variety of tax topics.

As a Taxpayer Assistance Officer, you’ll provide exceptional customer service, assist with tax account adjustments, process business registrations, and review important documents like powers of attorney.  

Salary range: $41,947 - $59,500

Schedule:  

  • Onsite hours are from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).

Preferred qualifications (one of the following):  

  • A bachelor’s degree OR
  • ​A high school diploma and two years of face-to-face customer service experience
