South Carolina Withholding tables updated for 2026
Thursday, Nov 6, 2025
The SCDOR has published its annual update of the state's Withholding Tax Tables. Employers and payroll providers should begin using the 2026 Withholding Tables on January 1, 2026.
Why it matters:
The SCDOR’s annual updates help ensure South Carolina employers are withholding the right amount from employees' paychecks.
Accurate Withholding Tables benefit employers, employees, and the state.
Taxpayers should check their withholding early each year, after tax law has changed, or if they have experienced significant life changes, including:
Marriage
Divorce
The birth of a child
A new job or raise
New taxable income not subject to withholding
Changes in itemized deductions or tax credits
The SCDOR will publish its annual updates to the SC W-4 in the coming weeks, and employers should also begin using the 2026 SC W-4 on January 1, 2026. Remember, taxpayers should complete a new SC W-4 when they begin a new job or need to update their withholding.
